Two tales of two brothers
Prince William and Prince Harry have upcoming documentaries on ITV. That's where the similarities end.
A prince. A cherished cause. A documentary airing on ITV. Multiplied by two.
Announcements of two documentaries featuring the sons of King Charles III were made within a week of each other. That’s where the similarities end. These programs showcase just how different the two brothers have become.
One program will discuss one prince’s personal fight against the media over how newspapers invaded his privacy and that of many others, especially before the implosion of the News of the World in 2011.
The other is a documentary about how a prince is using his position to help breath new life into a seemingly intractable problem afflicting hundreds of thousands across the United Kingdom.
On July 7, ITV and Homewards announced that the British network will air an exclusive documentary series in the autumn on Homewards, the five-year project launched by Prince William to find solutions to homelessness. With a working title of “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness,” the two 60-minute episodes promise a “behind the scenes look at the first year of the Homewards programme. It will follow Prince William as he launches Homewards across the country, as well as the journeys of those currently facing homelessness or who have lived experience of the issue,” ITV explained.
Three days later, ITV announced that it had secured “Prince Harry's first major interview since the conclusion of his court case with Mirror Group Newspapers” in a documentary about phone hacking by the British press. In the documentary “Tabloids on Trial,” the Duke of Sussex talks of “his mission to continue his fight to expose the illegal tactics of Britain's tabloid press and explores what those in charge at Fleet Street really knew as this scandal unfolded,” the ITV press release says. This 60-minute documentary, which will also feature interviews with actor Hugh Grant, singer Charlotte Church, and soccer legend Paul Gascoigne, airs on July 25.
