WHAT DAYS OF THE WEEK DO ROYALS WORK?
I’ve been a freelancer for eight years. I’m used to working at all hours of the day, yet I still don’t like working on Saturdays or Sundays — muscle memory that still says, “It’s the weekend!” And don’t get me started about having to work past nine in the evening.
I’m sure royals are like all of us and have days that they prefer over others. Yet, while they can customize their schedules in ways that ordinary workers can’t, they are sometimes locked into timings beyond their control: Trooping the Colour is on the third Saturday of June, state visits start on a Tuesday, and Commonwealth Day is the second Monday in March.
My analysis shows that the working royals really like the middle of the work week — around 70 percent of all engagements occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. In contrast, Monday is the least popular of the Monday-Friday days — working royals do 2.5 times more engagements on Wednesday than they do on Monday.
