RANKING THE ROYALS
I’m now at the HOW part of my analysis of the 2024 royal work year. One can’t compare the duties of monarch with that of his daughter-in-law. At the same time, it’s illuminating to see the overall engagement data for all the royals presented on one or two charts. So, after 19 days of detailed analysis of all parts of royal work life, here is the first of my posts analyzing topline results for 2024.
It was an unusual year as three senior royals had serious health issues, which affected their work as well as that of their spouses. So it’s no surprise that the year 2024 will need an asterisk next to it.
The year 2024 turned out to be the lowest year in terms of engagements since the two pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.
The royal family crossed the 2,000-engagement mark on December 20, the last day of engagements before Christmas. They ended the year having done 2,002 engagements, down 420 engagements or 17 percent from 2023.
Another way to look at the royal year is by the number of days worked. This year, the order of working royals doesn’t change much — the clear leader is Princess Anne while the Duke of Gloucester worked more days than Sophie but did fewer engagements. Likewise the Duchess of Gloucester and Duke of Kent flipped spots depending on how you calculate their work.
As for the actual number of engagements worked in 2024 and how that yearly tally compared with last year, that’s below my paywall.
