In 2023, the royal year started on January 5 when two female royals got back to work after their holiday break: Princess Anne attended the annual Oxford Farming Conference while the Duchess of Gloucester held two phone meetings with her patronages (the Lullaby Trust and then Parkinson’s UK) from her London base of Kensington Palace.
As of today, the last official work engagement occurred on Wednesday, December 20 when Queen Camilla met with members of the military. Then, after joined by King Charles III, she hosted a reception at Windsor Castle. That final duty occurred in the evening, hours after they hosted a traditional Christmas lunch for the extended royal family at the castle.
By the Numbers for those 351 days of 2023:
1 coronation;
4 state visits (3 abroad, 1 in the U.K.);
11 working royals (from King Charles III to Princess Alexandra of Kent)
13 palaces, castles and residences as locales for engagements;
415 engagements in 28 foreign countries and two dependencies / territories;
2,422 engagements in total (as of Dec 28)
I’ll analyze the stories and trends behind the data in coming weeks, starting with this top-line analysis.
